YouTrain builds a military XR training platform for armed forces, law enforcement, and emergency responders. Our products – DronAR, TrainAR, BrothAR, ShootAR, DrivAR, and MissionAR – combine immersive environments with real equipment, enabling scalable training for drone operations, tactical shooting, emergency driving, and mission planning. The Role

As Director of Product you own YouTrain's entire product portfolio – DronAR, MissionAR, TrainAR, BrothAR, ShootAR and DrivAR – and lead the product organisation. You decide what YouTrain builds and in which order: what becomes platform and what stays customer-specific, which training problem is solved next, and how we measure that it has been solved. Our promise is demonstrable training effectiveness, not immersive technology alone – and making that promise deliverable is the core of this role. You work directly with instructors, drone operators and first responders, with procurement stakeholders at the Bundeswehr and public authorities, and closely with Engineering, Level Design and Business Development. You report directly to the Co-CEO Product/Technology.

What You'll Do

• Own product strategy and the portfolio roadmap across all product lines – including the decision about what becomes shared platform and what remains customer-specific engineering.
• Build and lead the product organisation: hire and develop Product Managers for the product lines and align them on common standards for discovery, prioritisation and delivery.
• Make training effectiveness a measurable product goal: define assessment logic, After-Action-Review and learning analytics so that customers can evidence the training effect.
• Own discovery with real users – instructors, operators and first responders – and translate operational requirements into product decisions rather than collecting feature requests.
• Decide prioritisation across competing customer, tender and platform demands, and defend those decisions to customers, the team and the management.
• Own the product side of tenders and procurement processes: requirement analysis, feasibility assessment, and the recommendation not to bid where that is the right call.
• Plan deliverable releases together with Engineering and QA, holding the balance between speed, quality and platform capability.
• Assess market, competitive and technology developments in the defence and simulation space and feed them into product strategy.
  
  

About You

• 8+ years of product management experience with complex technical products, including several years leading Product Managers or a product organisation.
• Proven track record of delivering products from discovery through to customer rollout – with nameable outcomes, not just roadmaps.
• Experience with B2B or B2G products in long, formal procurement cycles and with demanding enterprise or public sector customers.
• Solid technical understanding of 3D/real-time systems, simulation or XR – sufficient to hold architecture and effort discussions with Engineering as an equal.
• Experience holding platform decisions against customer-specific exceptions – and explaining the commercial consequence of both paths.
• Ability to decide with incomplete information, take ownership, and work in an environment without mature processes.
• Excellent communication skills in German and English – equally credible with instructors, procurement officers and engineers.
• Willingness to travel to customers, troop visits and training grounds (approx. 20–30%). EU/NATO citizenship required due to our customer environment.

• Experience in defence, GovTech, simulation or training; own military or law enforcement background an advantage.
• Experience with learning platforms, competency models or evidencing training outcomes.
• Experience with drones (UAS), mission planning systems or geographic information systems.
• Experience with on-premise, offline or air-gapped products and their consequences for product decisions.
