Manager (m/f/d) Smart Container - Device Technology - #2210202

Hapag-Lloyd deployed tracking technology to the majority of its containers. While equipping the remaining containers and newbuilds with devices, the existing fleet of devices needs to be actively managed in order to ensure gapless data flow. Operational and commercial use cases rely on the device’s reliability. At the same time, there continues to be potential for optimization and further exploitation of technology’s capabilities in terms of hardware and software. Our strategy is to operate a state-of-the-art device fleet and maintain our first mover advantage in a fast-moving market.

• Optimize and exploit existing device technology and drive technology enhancements
• Monitor device performance and health and initiate firmware and profile optimizations with device providers, addressing potential flaws and contributing to root cause analysis and resolution efforts
• Liaise with internal data consumers to translate business requirements for new solutions, channel requirements to external device providers to steer the development of new solutions 
• Coordinate with providers to plan, test and roll out firmware updates, including changes to device performance profiles and sensors configuration
• Maintain system documentation, test logs, change tracking, and performance reports for firmware/profile iterations
• Interpret multi-dimensional device telemetry data to identify issues, validate firmware effectiveness and support operational improvements
• Define quality gates and metrics for data quality and coordinate realization through IT
• Cooperate with Procurement team on enforcement and escalation of providers’ compliance of service level agreements (SLA)
• Collaborate with IoT platform team & product owner for equipment monitoring
• Drive innovation and shape future device technology strategy 
• Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to smart container monitoring technologies
• Support deployment activities to reach maximum fleet coverage of smart containers

Qualifications

• University degree in engineering, computer / data science, information systems, business administration or similar studies
• Affinity to technology with focus on Internet of Things (IoT), telematics, and asset tracking
• Ability to identify the root causes of problems and develop suitable solutions by considering interconnected factors
• Stakeholder management: Expertise and experience in maintaining, inspiring, and fostering a close relationship with internal and external partners such as vendors 
• Familiarity with SLA structures and technical performance indicators (i.e power management thresholds, battery levels, GNSS position accuracy, alert accuracy, etc.)
• Experience in logistics or container tracking environment is beneficial
• Innovative and holistic thinking, focusing on what benefits the overall organization

• Proactive effort to act and take action independently
• Strong analytic and conceptual mindset, motivation and assertiveness
