- Assess existing internal control structures, identify gaps, and develop remediation plans.
- Align internal controls with industry leading practices (e.g., COSO, ISO 31000) and regulatory requirements (e.g. J-SOX).
- Develop and document standardized internal control activities, processes, policies, and procedures.
- Evaluate processes and systems to identify relevant risks and required controls.
- Ensure internal controls are embedded within key business processes to mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks.
- Assess, test and monitor defined controls to identify and resolve potential gaps.
- Partner with functions (e.g. Finance, Risk, IT, Compliance and Internal Audit) to ensure alignment across the organization with internal policies and external regulations.
- Conduct risk and control assessments and advise leadership on weaknesses and areas for improvement incl. development of stakeholder reporting.
- Support internal and external audits, addressing control deficiencies and implementing corrective actions.
- Build and maintain a functioning internal controls organization/ community in alignment with and to integrate into the existing Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) organization.
- Identify opportunities for automation and digital transformation to enhance control efficiency.
- Collaborate with IT to implement GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) tools and other technology solutions.
- Standardize and streamline workflows to drive operational excellence.
- Develop and deliver training programs to increase awareness and compliance with internal controls.
- Promote a strong culture of risk awareness and accountability across the organization.
- Act as a trusted advisor to regional and local stakeholders and functions, providing guidance on control-related matters.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or CRMA are highly desirable.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing internal controls frameworks in an international organization and/or complex environment.
- Experience with regulatory requirements such as SOX/J-SOX, and compliance frameworks (e.g. COSO, ISO 31000).
- Experience working with GRC systems and internal control automation tools.
- Medical device, pharmaceutical, life science, or healthcare industries experience with experience implementing risk and compliance programs is preferred.
- Experience working in multi-national organization and leading projects involving stakeholders from different jurisdictions and functions. Exposure to Asian cultures is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of financial controls, operational risk, and compliance frameworks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to assess risks and recommend solutions.
- Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Fluent in English. German and/or Japanese is a plus.
- Ability to influence and drive change across multiple departments.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Self-driven, accountable, motivated, team-player and goal-oriented.
