About The Role

We are currently seeking an engineer to strengthen our Piping Components section in Germany, focusing on the Type Approval of components and certifications under the Marine Equipment Directive (MED). Type Approval is a vital process that confirms equipment complies with applicable requirements and is permitted for installation on ships. It is based on technical criteria from DNV class rules, international regulations (IMO, MED), and standards such as IEC, ISO, and EN.

The Approval Centre Europe, part of Maritime Ship Classification, consists of six production departments across three locations: Gdynia, Hamburg, and Oslo (Høvik). Our main role is to provide approval, verification, and certification services for maritime-related assets in line with DNV rules and international standards.

In This Position, You Will

  • Perform type approval of piping components in accordance with international requirements, standards, and DNV rules.
  • Conduct design reviews and attend testing as part of the type approval certification process.
  • Manage approval projects with customers and participate in testing and verification activities with equipment manufacturers in a dynamic, international market.
  • Support DNV’s global network of local stations and sales teams, and contribute to sales processes.
  • Participate in face-to-face meetings with customers.

About You

  • You hold an MSc or BSc in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Marine Engineering, with ideally 2–5 years of relevant work experience. A background in the maritime, offshore, or energy industry is preferable.
  • You are open-minded, adaptable to technological advancements, and have a genuine interest in working with standards and marine regulations in the ship industry.
  • As a self-driven team player, you are passionate about solving challenges and delivering results. You communicate well—both verbally and in writing—and know how to build trust, confidence, and respect.
