Now we are looking for you to support us with your expertise working on the IoT and Edge related code infrastructure. You will be the one responsible to translate ideas into actual code, ensuring secure and reliable connections and dealing with all the challenges that arise from the fact that vessels are moving around the whole world.

More Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain machine-to-cloud connectivity for industrial IoT equipment using various protocols.
  • Design and implement an edge software architecture under given hardware, connectivity and environmental constraints
  • Collaborate with our full-stack developers, set up an automated CI/CD pipeline for the IoT related software part and follow agile best practices for continuous development
  • Develop a new cost efficient retrofit IoT solution to roll out to the installed base of MacGregor equipment
  • Select the ideal hardware and, together with our equipment engineering teams, also the right sensors to gather the right data and transfer it towards our cloud consistently 24/7
  • Design, implement and maintain time series databases to buffer the data on the edge
  • Ensure compliance with Cyber Security regulations and customer requirements, and implement methods to monitor and ensure secure operations
  • Operate an infrastructure of services to manage, update and troubleshoot our fleet of devices and implement diagnostic metrics, and ensure our solution follows a plug & play philosophy

This role is part of our Global Services Division. Reporting directly to the Digital Product Manager, Digital Development. This position can be based in Sweden, Germany, Finland or any other MacGregor location in Europe.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Preferably 4+ years of experience developing software for IoT systems, including edge or embedded systems and proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (e.g. Rust,C/C++/QT, Go, Python or equivalent)
  • Advanced Linux administration and shell scripting skills
  • Knowledge of networking stack and configuration, as well as experience with use, maintenance and troubleshooting of wireless technology like GSM, LTE, 5G, LoraWAN, Starlink or Industrial Wifi related to IoT projects
  • experience with IoT specific protocols, like MQTT, OPCUA, Modbus, CANbus, Ethernet/IP
  • Experience with cloud IoT platforms and remote management systems (e.g. AWS IoT, Mender, Teamviewer)
  • Basic knowledge of cyber security best practices and regulations for industrial IoT environments
  • Additional good-to-have experience:
  • Golden Image creation, OTA updating for OS & applications
  • Yocto or Buildroot and Firmware development
  • Hardware and sensor prototyping
  • Operation of Machine Learning inference on the edge
  • Experience with design, implementation and maintenance of time series databases and relational / non relational databases
  • Competence using Docker or other containerization solutions
  • Collaborative, empathetic, passionate about solving complex challenges, continuously learning something new, and incorporating feedback
  • Good ability to communicate the complex technical context to various, non-technical stakeholders, and vice versa translate business requirements into technical concepts
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required
  • Ability to travel occasionally as the team and customers are spread across the Europe
