The Head of Software Development & Architecture will lead and oversee the design, development, and implementation of software solutions and architectures to support the OpenTAS Group’s vision in the energy and chemicals industry. This leadership role is responsible for setting the technical direction, ensuring high-quality development practices, highest-level of IT security, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge software solutions that meet the evolving needs of the industry.

The Head of Software Development & Architecture will lead and oversee the design, development, and implementation of software solutions and architectures to support the OpenTAS Group’s vision in the energy and chemicals industry. This leadership role is responsible for setting the technical direction, ensuring high-quality development practices, highest-level of IT security, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge software solutions that meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and inspire the software development and architecture teams, offering clear direction, mentorship, and ongoing support.
- Shape and drive the technical vision for software development and architecture across the company, ensuring we stay ahead of industry trends.
- Align our software solutions with both business objectives and regulatory requirements, making sure every project supports our long-term goals.
- Champion innovation, foster an agile mindset, and drive best practices to build a culture of continuous improvement in development processes.
- Design robust, scalable, and secure software architectures that tackle the complex challenges faced by the energy and chemicals industries.
- Integrate emerging technologies to ensure our solutions maintain a competitive edge and evolve with the changing landscape.
- Build flexible architectures that support dynamic needs, from energy trading to supply chain optimization, while adhering to regulatory standards.
- Clean code und best practices/patterns in software development.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, business analysts, and other teams to translate business needs into clear technical requirements.
- Actively manage QA, DevOps, and support teams to ensure we deliver high-quality, reliable products and services.
- Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex challenges into clear, actionable insights.
- Lead and nurture a high-performance software development team, including engineers, architects, and developers.
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation where every team member can grow and succeed.
- Set clear performance goals, conduct regular reviews, and provide constructive feedback to empower the team’s development.
- Drive the evaluation and implementation of new development methodologies, tools, and frameworks to stay ahead of industry shifts.
- Ensure that our software development processes and technologies evolve to meet the demands of an ever-changing industry landscape.
- Encourage experimentation and innovation, balancing bold ideas with sound risk management practices.
- Ensure all software solutions adhere to the relevant regulatory frameworks and standards within the energy and chemicals sectors.
- Oversee risk management efforts, proactively identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities to ensure the security and stability of our systems.
Required Skills
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced certifications in software architecture or development are a plus. Languages: English fluent, German basics
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in software architecture, design, and implementation
- Solid understanding of energy trading, supply chain management, or related areas in the energy and chemicals sectors.
- Strong experience in leading software development teams within the Microsoft ecosystem (Azure, .NET, Dynamics, Power Platform, AI).
- Expertise in modern, object oriented, programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, .Net, C#, etc.) and frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of cloud architectures (AWS, Azure).
- Experience with microservices, APIs, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of data management, analytics, and machine learning is a plus.
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strong experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects.
- Ability to navigate complex business environments and influence key stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with a focus on long-term success and industry leadership.
- Results-driven with a proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions on time and within budget.
- Experience with terminal management solutions or industrial automation/supply chain solution software.
- Knowledge of compliance standards such as ISO 27001, KRITIS, NIS2, GDPR.
